My husband passed away two years ago and I’m facing so much of this. Fortunately, I have access to all his passwords and photos but have struggled with the Amazon, Audible, Netflix, layer. I’ve used his phone to cancel things and while know it’s not ethical, there’s not much to be done about it. Closing accounts and reopening in my name only has taken so much of my time, paying for his phone line for 18 months after and checking his phone almost daily as bills become due or items renew has just about done me in. I’m determined to not leave the same mess for my children, but I don’t blame him for any of it. We just didn’t know! I look forward to reading and heeding your suggestions.

I’m sorry for your loss.

We may learn more from the comments about how serious a problem this is than we’ll learn from the articles.

They’ll say what to do - you’ll tell us why it’s necessary to do it.

Great article with important info. When I was diagnosed with cancer (I’m good now) I made a Note and shared it with my daughter and son, the two out of five children who will handle my estate. We all have Apple devices so when we share notes they can see them in their notes app and when I update a password, they see the updated ones. I also gave them my budget, and what the budget would look like for my husband if I went first. We’re in the process of putting each other and one of them on file with a POA so they can manage our banking, our pensions, govt pensions, 🇨🇦 etc. I also need to update my will, but I’ve been procrastinating. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Good for you - you’ve done a great job.

Stop that procrastination 😉

This is another way that you, their mother, are caring for your children. And it will help them care for you one day.

So true. I didn’t think of it that way. 😊

Paul, thank you for leaning into this important topic! Even Amazon requires a death certificate to close an account. 🤦🏻‍♀️ As you know, navigating someone’s digital legacy and estate has become quite a challenge for many families. So glad you’re shining a light on this!
